How Railway Officer Monjur-Ul-Alam Chowdhury thinks about ‘Bangabandhu’

Staff Reporter

“It is not possible for anyone to repay the debt of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest father of the Bengali nation of all time.

Bangabandhu means the existence of Bengalis, Bangabandhu means Bangladesh but the immense respect, gratitude and love, that what I wanted to express.

Tried to do something from that place of respect and love. I have written the song ‘Mahanayak’ out of the passion and love that I cherish within myself” – these are the words of a railway official. He is Additional Director General (RS) Monzur-Ul-Alam Chowdhury of Bangladesh Railway.

Mr Chowdhury has commemorated the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation and Mujib year through his lyric poetry. He wrote—

“You are the greatest in history, the great hero of this Bengal,
You are the breath of the exploiter, the breath of the exploited, the creator of freedom!

On the occasion of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birth centenary and Mujib Year , this timeless song titled ‘Mahanayak’ has been composed by Rajesh Ghosh. The melody and rock-style song sung by ex-vocalist Mizan Rahman of Wharfez was released in December last year on digital media including YouTube under the banner of G-Series. This song, which brought out the life of the father of the nation with great emotion, became popular with the audience and critics as well.

Monjur-Ul-Alam Chowdhury, speaking about his feelings about the Mahanayak song, said that it is not possible to highlight Bangabandhu’s long life and ideals in a few lines. I have tried to highlight the father of the nation in the song within this limitation. The immense respect and gratitude and love I have for him is what I want to express in this song. It’s a different kind of love for me.

Railway official Monjur-Ul-Alam Chowdhury also composed many other songs. That number has exceeded the century house. Most of these songs are about country, liberation war and Bangabandhu. And these songs have been sung by all the elite artists of the country. He is regularly practicing literature and culture even from the important duties of the government. This engineer has been awarded many awards and honors for his significant contribution in the field of culture. He is a listed singer of Bangladesh Television and Betar.

His work is not limited to songwriting only. Bangladesh Railway has built a mobile museum for the first time to spread the ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in remote areas. He was in the main plan of the ‘Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Mobile Railway Museum’ built under the inspiration of the Railway Minister.

The museum opened to visitors on August 1, the first day of the month of mourning. Which is now traveling around the country. Which has already become very popular among people of all walks of life.
Built inside a meter gauge and a broad gauge rail coach, this mobile museum showcases the history of Bangabandhu, the Liberation War and Bangladesh from 1920 to 1975 through 12 galleries.

The history of Bangabandhu from his childhood, his student life, involvement in politics, becoming a leader of the masses by dedicating his life to the struggle for human rights is presented in the museum.

There is also the contribution of Bangabandhu as the main hero in achieving the desired freedom through the historic six points of the Bengali nation’s liberation charter, the popular uprising of 1969 and the nation’s glorious liberation war in 1971, which will come alive before the eyes of the audience. In addition to watching, visitors can listen to Bangabandhu’s speech through audio-video, as well as watch various documentaries about him.

The theme song of the museum is ‘Mahanayak’. About this, Monjur-Ul-Alam Chowdhury told this correspondent, usually people go to the museum, but our mobile museum will go to the people and highlight the extraordinary career of Bangabandhu. We have targeted the rural people so that the biography of Bangabandhu can be presented to the rural people by placing them in the stations in the remote areas.

He said, in fact, it is an almost impossible task to contain Bangabandhu in a single coach. But I tried my best. It will be enriched with time.Monjur-Ul-Alam Chowdhury is also contributing to the preservation of the history of the liberation war. It was his initiative that the memorial ‘Indomitable Freedom’ was built at the Sayedpur Railway Factory of Bangladesh Railway.

The existence of the railway factory workers who were martyred in the liberation war of 1971 was disappearing. History was being distorted. Besides preserving that history, the memorial was built in memory of the factory workers who were martyred in the liberation war.He took this initiative while working in Syedpur. This memorial was built in 2013 with useless railway parts and goods by the factory workers on their own initiative without any government financial support.

In this way, Monjur-Ul-Alam Chowdhury wants to keep himself busy through arts and literature practices besides contributing in many ways at the workplace. In his words, there is a lot to do but life is very short, I want to contribute as much as possible to everyone in this short life.
