Dinajpur (South) Correspondent

Domestic miners working under a Chinese contractor at the Barapukuria coal mine near Phulbari in Dinajpur staged a protest in the mining area on Sunday demanding realisation of two points demands.

The two-point demand is to allow the unemployed workers to join their own work and to pay the arrears of salary during the coronation period.

At 11 o’clock in the morning, under the banner of Barapukuria Coal Mine Workers and Employees Union, in front of the main gate of the mine, the local unemployed workers and employees working under the Chinese mining company took out a protest procession. Later, president of Barapukuria Coal Mine Workers and Employees Union Rabiul Islam Robi, general secretary Abu Sufian, former general secretary Nur Islam, labor leader Ehsanul Haque Sohag, Ershad Ali, Abu Taher and others spoke at a rally organized at the same place demanding two points.

At the end of the rally, a memorandum containing two demands was handed over to the Managing Director (MD) of Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited by the Security Supervisor stationed at the mine gate from Barapukuria Coal Mine Workers and Employees Union.

Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Limited Managing Director (MD) Engineer. Kamarmanzzaman Khan said there are about 1,000 workers working under the Chinese contractor. Of these, 450 to 500 workers are working due to corona. Workers who were given leave at that time are also now demanding wages. But the Chinese contractor has not yet made a decision on hiring workers, including salaries and allowances. However, if the situation is normal, maybe they can be used again. However, the mining authorities have already provided one-time financial assistance to these workers from BCMCL. They have been informed about the financial assistance for the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. The decision has not yet been made.
