Trawler sinks at opening ceremony of Padma Bridge, missing one

A young man named Al Arafi Tamim of Charfason in Bhola has gone missing after a trawler sank while inaugurating the Padma Bridge.

Three more people of the same upazila were injured in the incident. The missing Tamim is the only son of Mozir Uddin, a retired headmaster of Ansaria Government Primary School, Ward No. 4, Charfason Municipality. A Coast Guard team continues the rescue operation. However, the injured were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The accident took place when the trawler sank in the river while going to Mawa Ghat from Jajira end of Shariatpur district. The injured are BIWTA assistant director Sharif Islam, Charfason Upazila Chhatra League president Mehedi Hasan Sohag and Charfason Juba League leader Asaduzzaman Khan Manun. Meanwhile, seriously injured Juba League leader Asaduzzaman Khan Manun is undergoing treatment at Sholgar Government Hospital in Srinagar.

Injured Mamun said that all of them had left for Dhaka by trawler from Jajira to Mawa Ghat after the public meeting of the inauguration ceremony of Padma Bridge on Saturday. The trawler sank due to strong currents and waves in the middle of the river. Although three people were rescued with the help of the local navy, Tamim is still missing.
