Suryabanu Jonakira finds address of her dreams in Char Fashion

Sabbir Alam Babu, Bhola

Suryabanu and Jonakid had nothing to help. I had to return to someone else’s house after working all day.

Now you can return home every day. Not just houses, there are two hundred acres of land in their own name, hygienic toilets, safe living facilities with a beautiful veranda. Surya Banu and Jonakir have been included in the Charkachchapiya shelter project of Char Manika Union in Char Fashion, Bhola. The pucca house of that shelter project is like the address of their dreams.

A place of absolute dependence. The pucca houses of the Asrayan project have changed their standard of living.

Suryabanu said, land, house was nothing. I used to live in someone else’s house in Char Aicha village. From there I went to Dhaka. Swami Shahjahan used to drive the van, I used to do G’s work in other people’s house. I used to rent a house with 3 sons and 1 daughter.

The eldest son Ibrahim got married and separated. I married my daughter Sharmin in Kishoreganj. When my husband was unable to work due to his age, I moved to the area from Dhaka.

Again there is no shelter in someone else’s house. I never dreamed I would have my own house with land in my last years. At present, I am living happily with my husband and two young sons, Rubel and Shahadat, in the shelter of the shelter project. I thank the government of Sheikh Hasina for giving me a house with land. Jonaki said that her husband Babul had died a few years ago.

I never imagined that I would get a new house with land. I can stay at home. I am very happy to have a house. I thank the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Char Kachhpia Shelter Project of Char Manika Union like Suryabanu and Jonaki has accommodated 80 landless and homeless families. Besides, Jahanpur 10, Jinnagar 3 and Char Arkalmi 48 have become places for landless and homeless families.

To these landless and homeless people, every house is like a dream address. The people living in the shelter have planted vegetables and planted fruit trees next to their houses. He is earning his living by working in the fields including fishing in the river and raising poultry.

Besides, he is dreaming of becoming financially self-sufficient by raising cows, goats and running small businesses. It is learned that in the third phase of Asrayan Project-2, 340 houses have been allotted in Char Fashion Upazila.

Of these, 90 are in two separate locations in Hazariganj Union and 50 are near Panchkapat Sluice Gate, known as Machghat area of Jahanpur Union. Construction work of 120 out of 310 houses under construction in Kachhpia Machghat area of Charmanika Union, 3 houses in Jinnagar Union, 60 houses in Bazlubazar area of Nazrul Nagar Union and 33 houses in Osmanganj Union has been completed.

Work on the remaining 190 houses is nearing completion. Work on 30 houses could not be started as the soil was not compact. However, it can be started in the middle of next July.

The keys of 120 completed houses and land deeds have already been handed over to the beneficiaries. In these houses, 12 families with disabilities, 48 families of Nadibhanga, 15 families of abandoned husbands, 21 families of in-laws and 24 landless families including husband and wife and children have found a safe place. Beneficiary selection process is underway to hand over the remaining 190 houses by June 30.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Al Noman said, out of 340 houses in Char Fashion, 260 houses are being constructed on khas land. Land has been purchased for 60 houses. Work on 30 houses cannot be started now as the soil is not compact.

However, it can be started in the middle of next July. He added that utmost care has been taken in the construction of houses. The best brands of cement on the market, TMT bar rods, good bricks, high quality picket cob, good mahogany wood etc. have been used.

These things have been done thinking of one’s own work. Work has been done keeping in mind that these distressed families can live in these houses and get peace. In addition, one tubewell is being installed for every 10 families. He added that there are many small children in these projects who do not have any opportunity to play.

Considering them, mini parks will be constructed in these projects, some vacant space has been set aside in each project area for construction of parks.

He hoped that this special initiative of the Hon’ble Prime Minister would go down in history as a role model for the rest of the world.
