Habiganj Correspondent

The Sutang and Dhaleshwari rivers in Lakhai of Habiganj have caused flash floods. As a result, at least 50 hectares of crops in the area have been submerged. Thousands of farmers have been affected.

Additional Deputy Director (Horticulture) of the District Agriculture Extension Department Nayan Mani Sutradhar informed about the matter on Monday.

He said that due to heavy rains in Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh of India, the water level in different rivers of Sylhet, Sunamganj and Habiganj is increasing. As a result, the Sutang and Dhaleshwari rivers in Lakhai rose and entered the haor, causing flash floods.

At least 50 hectares of crops in Daskania, Barchar, Bhogar Beel, Atharodona Haor have been submerged. In addition, more than a hundred hectares of land is about to be submerged. If the water level continues to rise, there is a danger that those lands will also be submerged.

Shahnewaz Talukder, Executive Engineer of Water Development Board, said the waters of the Sutang and Dhaleshwari rivers are currently below the danger level. Currently water growth is stable. However, if the rains continue in India, the water may rise.
