Semi-ripe crop of Madan Koira Beel harvested as dam broken

Madan (Netrokona) Correspondent

Due to the hill slope and rain, the water of several haors of Netrokona Madan has entered and created a situation of premature flooding.

In this situation, the farmers of that area are spending their days in terror. Boro paddy in high lands continues to rise and they are in danger of being damaged.

Fatehpur UP Chairman Samiul Haider Safi said on Monday that with the rising water level, the Upazila administration, farmers’ representatives and farmers tried to protect the temporary dam of Koira Beel but the last attempt was not made to protect the dam.

Due to steep slopes and rains, the water of Dhanur, a large river in Haoranchal, has been flowing above the danger level. If this increase continues, there is a danger of breaking several crop protection dams in Maghan and Gobindshree Union of Haorpar in the next one week.

Habibur Rahman, upazila agriculture officer, said the haor had suffered minor damage as a result of the breach. If the 7 km crop protection dam of Koira beel is constructed, the land of the haor below Deosahila will be protected.

Besides, if the Putia dam of Khaliajuri Dhanu river is constructed permanently, the boro paddy of Maghan,Gobindshree and Fatehpur will be protected from the hill slope in advance. If the water level rises, 600 hectares of land in Madan Upazila is likely to be damaged. UNO Bulbul Ahmed said, “I rushed to Haor at night after getting the news of breaking the dam.”

Paddy is harvested in the machine at night as there is a risk of flooding of paddy land. However, most of the farmers in this haor have cut their boro paddy.
