Safe Motherhood Day Observed in Rangpur Islamic Foundation

An advocacy meeting was held at Rangpur Islamic Foundation auditorium on Monday on the occasion of Safe Motherhood Day in Rangpur with the initiative of “Mother and child need to go to health center to save their lives”.

Deputy Commissioner Asib Ahsan presided over the meeting organized by the Divisional Office of the Islamic Foundation. Additional Divisional Commissioner (Overall) Ibrahim Khan was the chief guest. Abul Kalam, Director of the Divisional Office of the Islamic Foundation addressed the discussion under the direction of Mosaddikul Alam, Deputy Director of Islamic Foundation. Among the special guests were Divisional Director (Health) Dr Abu Mohammad Zakirul Islam, Superintendent of Police Ferdous Ali Chowdhury, Director of Family Planning Dewan Morshed Kamal, Director of Coordination Department of Islamic Foundation Mohammad Mohiuddin Majumder, UNICEF Rangpur and Rajshahi Divisional Chief Najibullah Hamim.

Speakers at the conference stressed the importance of women as well as men being aware to ensure safe motherhood. There is no alternative to building a social movement in this regard. About 15 mothers die every day in Bangladesh due to pregnancy and childbirth complications.

Postpartum hemorrhage, convulsions, complications during pregnancy, risky pregnancies and neglect of the family are some of the major causes of maternal mortality.
