People from 3 upazilas have to cross river by boat as there is no bridge in Cumilla

Cumilla Correspondent

On the other side are Fardabad Bazar of Bancharampur upazila of Brahmanbaria district, Nabinagar upazila of the same district and more than 100 villages of Muradnagar upazila of Cumilla district. Titus River in the middle.

Every day at least 6,000 people have to cross this river. The locals have been demanding construction of a bridge on this part of the river for a long time but to no avail. So people have been forced to cross the river by ferry for ages.

Chairman of Srikail Union of Muradnagar Upazila Md. Iqbal Bahar said that people of three upazilas are suffering indescribably for this one bridge. A few years ago a bridge was built on this river but it did not help much in these two upazilas within Bancharampur upazila. Personally, I think the bridge is very important here.
Dabir Ahmed, UP member of Ratanpur Union of Bancharampur Upazila, said Fardabad of Bancharampur Upazila is the only hope of about 9 villages of the two upazilas as there are no educational institutions in the vicinity. Because there are no schools, colleges or madrasas here.
Jahangir Ahmed, UP member of Ward 1 of Srikail Upazila in Muradnagar Upazila, said, But there is no effective initiative in the construction of the bridge. In this situation, at least 50,000 people in three upazilas are suffering indescribably due to lack of bridges. Ordinary people are now frustrated with their demands. ‘
If someone gets sick at night, he has to walk 8 km to get to the hospital. Because then there are no boats on the ferry. It has also happened that many children do not go to school regularly due to lack of ferry fare.

Recently, it was seen on the spot that people of Muradnagar and Nabinagar upazilas are coming to Fardabad market of Bancharampur upazila by crossing the river Titas in 29 boats. On the other hand, the people of Bancharampur Upazila are also coming by ferry to Pipariakanda Bazar of Muradnagar Upazila and Dubachail and Bajibisara of Nabinagar Upazila. There are at least a thousand school-college students among the commuters.

Speaking to more than 50 people of different classes and professions in Nabinagar Upazila and Muradnagar Upazila, it is learned that although more than 100 villages around Fardabad Bazar are included in Muradnagar and Nabinagar Upazilas, these villages are located at least 20 kilometers away from their Upazila headquarters. That is why the people of these villages take education and medical services starting from Bazar-Sauda in Fardabad Bazar of Bancharampur Upazila located just across the river. Many business establishments of these people have also been established in Fardabad market.

The people of these two upazilas have to come to Fardabad market every day for various purposes including business-medical-education and kinship. In this situation, they are suffering due to the lack of a bridge.

Kamal Mia, a resident of Bhanganagar village in Muradnagar upazila, lamented, “I doubt if I could see the bridge in this life or not!”
Muradnagar Upazila Engineer Jahangir Kabir acknowledged the need to build the bridge, saying, “If this bridge is built, it will connect directly with the three upazilas.”

However, most of the river is in Bancharampur and Nabinagar upazilas of Brahmanbaria district. Only they can arrange a bridge here.
