Flood situation worsens in Madan

The flood situation in Madan is deteriorating day by day due to the continuous rains for three days and the water of the hill slopes coming down from the upper reaches.

Hundreds of villages in the upazila have been inundated by the rising flood waters from Friday morning to Saturday noon.

About half a million people are without water. Many are losing everything and running to the shelter. Several secondary and primary schools of the upazila have been submerged. The flood waters have entered the houses of more than 100 villages of 6 unions including 1 municipality of the upazila.

It has been seen that different areas of the upazila were flooded on Saturday. They are not going to the shelter leaving the paddy and cattle at home. Some of them are running to the shelter and to the house of their relatives, Residents of Madan Upazila have suffered immensely as the flood situation has deteriorated further.

Upazila Executive Officer Bulbul Ahmed said more than 100 villages in Madan Upazila were inundated by the flood waters till noon on Saturday. The administration has made all kinds of preparations to deal with the flood situation. At present 9 control rooms have been opened including 40 shelters.

As of noon on Saturday, more than 1,000 families had taken refuge in the shelter.Dry food and cash have been distributed among each family.They are being given all kinds of benefits. So far, more than 22,000 families in the upazila have been affected by the floods.
