Historian Ahsanul Kabir thinks that many people have become councilor candidates in Cumilla City Corporation elections to identify themselves. Many have again become candidates out of personal resentment. Again many of them have competed as dummy candidates to make the other candidate the winner. There have also been multiple candidates from the same party politically in the wards. Candidates are losing bail due to all these.
He added that in the past, people in the area encouraged middle-class educated people to vote. At present they announce their own candidates. In this way they do not get any more votes than the votes of family or relatives.

It may be mentioned that on 15th June, polling was held in 26 general and 9 reserved wards of Cumilla city. In this election, 5 candidates are contesting for the post of mayor, 108 candidates for the post of councilor and 36 candidates for the post of reserved councilor.
