6 acres property of Nawab Faizunnesa Chy Waq Estate evicted in Cumilla

Zakir Azad, Cumilla

It has been alleged that two daughters of Nawab Faizunnesa Chowdhury have been evicted from their property in Vauksar village of Comilla district.
Nawab Faizunnesa Chowdhury Rani was born in Paschimgaon under Homnabad Pargana (now Laksam) of Cumilla district. She was born as the first daughter in 1834 in the house of zamindar Ahmed Ali Chowdhury and mother Arafannesa Chowdhurani.

She married Syed Mohammad Ghazi, another famous zamindar of Barura at that time, in 180. She was the second wife of Mohammad Ghazi. At that time he built a beautiful three-domed mosque at his father-in-law’s house in Vauksar village of Vauksar union in Barura upazila. Later, his two daughters Badrennesa Chowdhury Rani and Azizunnesa Chowdhury Rani donated about 8 acres of property including two mosques.

Even though the zamindar system has come to an end, this beautiful mosque stands as a witness of the times. Containing the rhythmic history of Nawab Faizunnesa. There are many small domes outside the mosque. Inside and outside walls there is design and someone’s work. This eye-catching construction will attract anyone who is artistic.

Recently, the waqf property of Nawab Faizunnesa’s two daughters is about 6 acres, but in reality it is not. Many assets have been evicted. After all, Syed Enayatul Haque was the chairman of the mosque committee. He is the father of Vauxhall UP chairman Syed Mashroor Haque. After his death, the proposed committee is managing the mosque. Another mosque is being run at the same place by UP chairman Syed Mashroor Haque.

Recently, he has filed several cases in the court to release the evicted property of Azizunnesa Chowdhury Rani Waqf. The mosque, built by Nawab Faizunnesa Chowdhury Rani, a witness to the history of the zamindar period, is currently crumbling inside and out. The history of the zamindar period will be lost if the state does not take initiative for reform and maintenance.
Some locals said on condition of anonymity that the property of the old mosque was waqfed. And the property of the new mosque was given to Awlad Waqf. Most of the properties now have no whereabouts due to lack of documents. Disputes are now raging everywhere over the property of Awlad Waqf. Moreover, the big tank of Vauxhall Union was also the property of Lillah Waqf. But Awlad Waqf’s heirs are making fake paper and taking possession of it. The government must come forward to rescue all these properties.

In this regard, the old mosque committee president Syed Kamrul Alam Mamun and general secretary Enamul Haque Enam said, “We are not able to renovate the mosque due to lack of funds.” Cumilla District Council and Cumilla Regional Archaeological Office did not receive any cooperation from the government in this regard. They have sought the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister to nurture history.

In this regard, Syed Mashroor Haque, UP Chairman of Vauxhall Union, said that Nawab Faizunnesa Chowdhury Rani, a Mahiusi woman, was a unique example for women. We are proud that she is our bride.

He further said that Nawab Faizunnesa Chowdhury Rani has two daughters Badrunnesa Chowdhury Rani and Azizunnesa Chowdhury Rani. The two daughters waqfed about 8 acres of property, including a mosque built by Nawab Faizunnesa and another mosque at Azizunnesa. Currently most of the property has been evicted.

The Nawab Faizunnesa Mosque is being run by a proposed committee. The devotees are performing Panjegana prayers by making minor reforms. And I am in charge of the committee chairman of the mosque of Azizunnesa Chowdhury Rani.

Currently, I have already filed a case in the court to release the evicted property of Azizunnesa. I have also informed the Upazila Nirbahi Officer about all these. The cases are ongoing.

In this regard, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Anisul Islam said that the Regional Director of the Archaeological Department at Comilla Kotbari Ataur Rahman has been informed to preserve all the waqf properties including the mosque. The mosque will be visited with him in a few days.
