4 robbers arrested in Juri

A press conference was held at Juri police station on Wednesday afternoon regarding the arrest of four robbers after a collapsible gate was cut at the house of an expatriate in Juri upazila of Moulvibazar and four members were taken hostage at gunpoint.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Sudarshan Kumar Roy gave a press briefing to reporters at a conference chaired by Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sanjay Chakraborty. Kulaura Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sadek Kawsar Dastagir and Investigation OC Abul Kalam were also present.

It may be mentioned that on June 4, the members of the robbers group cut the collapsible gate at the house of an expatriate in Amtail village of Paschimjuri union of the upazila and took the family members hostage at gunpoint with cash and gold ornaments. Later, Ziaur Rahman, a resident of the house, filed a case with Juri police station.

Later, using the plaintiff’s statement and information technology, the police arrested Abdul Jalil (30), son of Lal Miah of Halgara village of Goalbari union, from Dakshinbhag area within 72 hours.

Besides, Kamrul Islam, 26, son of Rabai Miah of Durgapur village of Purbajuri union, Maruf alias Sanu, 21, son of Hajir Uddin of Jamkandi village and Abdul Karim alias Lakush Miah, 21, son of Paschim Bhabanipur (Khalpar) of Jaifarnagar union were arrested.

Cash and weapons used in the robbery were recovered from the arrested robbers. However, the accused Kamrul Islam was arrested by the chairman of Purbajuri Union Obaidul Islam Ruel and handed over to the police.

There are several cases against the arrested persons in Juri police station. The operation to arrest those involved in the robbery, including a microbus, is continuing.
