Sheikh Md. Atiqur Rahman Atiq, Gaibandha

A child named Shammi Akter (5) was killed when he was crushed under a sand loading trolley at Kanchipara in Fulchhari upazila of Gaibandha. Two persons named Jihad (5) and Halima Akhter (25) were injured in the incident.

The accident took place at the junction of Rashid Miah Chatal in Madhya Kanchipara of the upazila on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Shammi, daughter of Sabuj Miah of Madhya Kanchipara village under Akter upazila. The driver of the trolley fled after the accident.

Locals said that on Sunday afternoon, on the way to Ketkirhat from the sand-filled engine-driven trolley academy market, he lost control in front of Rashid Miah’s attic in Madhya Kanchipara and hit the verandah of a house.

At that moment, the verandah collapsed and crushed the children Shammi Akhtar, Jihad and Halima who were standing there. Later the locals rescued them and admitted them to Gaibandha District Sadar Hospital.

When Shammi Akhter’s condition deteriorated there, he died on the way to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Kanchipara Union Parishad chairman Sohail Rana Shalu confirmed the accident, saying the trolley driver fled immediately after the incident but locals detained the trolley.
